Island of artists, eccentrics, legends, living legends and mystery. Ibiza is and has always been the center of the world in many ways according to quite a few speciaists in history. Many legendary figures came by, spent time or lived on the island. (For those interested in modern local Ibiza happenings itself or other info should visit other local sites) such as http://www.ibiza.es/ Ibiza Times, the old days is a intimate site for those who know and knew Ibiza). Ibiza has always played some kind of an important role, one way or another..Ibiza also had many street dogs in the sixties and seventies. Many writers wrote about them and some of those dogs were quite famous. They were part of everyones dailiy life and
they were very social. The locals didnt like them very much and dogcatchers would come after them in the late seventies (Peter Kinsley also writes about them in his book - Bogged down in county lyric) The young Sydney who they also called king of the dogs and the emperor (for helping and saving them) and who is a son of the island saved them during several years from the dog catchers. He not only saved the Ibiza street dogs but, also the lifes of quite a few locals and foreigners (The young Sydney is a descendant of Carlos 1 king of spain,Karel V king Emperor of the netherlands) The famous dogs from la marina (Ibiza town) included i.e. FATTY, TIKI and LINDA aka the gang of three.

TERRY-THOMAS AND LORD SYDNEY.

Comedy star Terry-Thomas and communication wizard Lord Sydney at Terry's home on Ibiza. The very last days of bohemian Ibiza.
It was during the mid sixties when Terry Thomas and the young Lord Sydney were spending time in Ibiza's calle Mayor at Waunas Bar with quite a few other names, colleagues and Ibiza friends. The calle Mayor street was still rough and dusty in those days and Ibiza's daily life was still quite bohemian. Waunas Bar was owned by actress, producer, manager Wauna Paul, who was also an old friend of Terry and Sydney, she organized some of the first Ibiza in crowd parties at her home near San Jose with her friend Princess Indie of Kapurthala , The young Sydney organized his first private monthly gatherings between artists and other members of society on Ibiza when he was nine years old at the finca in San Rafael and in D'alt vila, he was the youngest private consultant, artist and communication expert at the time.

Photo above shows the last picture taken of the late Terry-Thomas with Lord Sydney during Sydney's last visit to Terry on Ibiza in 1981. With thanks to photographer Jorge Drew for the PHOTOGRAPH,

THE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES PEOPLE.

James Blunt: Verliebt in Ibiza

Ibiza, the golden epoque of bohemians, hippies, artists and special people. Ibiza of the 1960's and 1970's ... Ibiza saw many people coming and going and, Ibiza also had its permanent artists and local celebrities..The list is very long! There were also quite a few famous people living hidden away in the campo, mountens, small villages, etc..Ibiza in the old days was a great joy for everyone! Ibiza bohemians and artists would meet during morning hours at Bar Estrella or later in the afternoon at the small local bar called Catalina's ....Typical local lunches would take place at La Noguera, Los pasajeros or

at Juanito's Bar Bahia at the port. Those with more money also went to Alfredo's. The Montesol, Bar Cristal, Bar Alhambra and Bar Serra were all quite popular at the time as well but, that was traditionally morning business. Most bohemian legends and artists would go in the afternoon to the real hideaway bars. In the 1950's Eivissa (Ibiza) had quit a few authentic fishermen bars and bohemian hang-out restaurants. La Noguera, Juanito Bahia and Los Pasajeros were only just a few of the places where people like John Anthony West, Steve Seley, J.G.Toonder and Bernie Bishop would go for lunch. Dali visited Ibiza, Orson Welles was there for a period as well as for his film F.for fake. Terry-Thomas, Denholm Elliot, Peter Kinsley. Pink Floyd, Kevin Ayers, Mike Oldfield, The Bee Gees and communications pioneer Lord Sydney who started his many careers on the island and making his first artisanal Ibiza films. Steve Seley wrote his books from there and, who didnt??? The list goes on and on! The island of joy where freedom and joy were the leading actors. Also see
